Stitching instead of spinning
This link came up because of a controversy over The Forbidden Stitch being mistakenly equated to the French Knot. The Forbidden Stitch in Chinese Embroideries It really is a nice site with some wonderful illustrations.
I have been working on a special nametag for an upcoming EGA event. I never enter contests, but I decided that it was time to take a risk. I have my overall design, but I decided to do some wired stumpwork and it has taken me way longer than I expected to shape and stitch a few items. I spent two hours with some wire and a pair of pliers and was still not really happy with my end product. LOL I am not going to share photos of my progress, because I don't want to jinx myself.
I sold a BUNCH of yarn on eBay, but it brought in less than $30. Regardless, I will press ahead and put some more of my overwhelming stash up for sale. I spent too much on eBay buys in the last six weeks and I am trying to even things out, but I also need to reclaim the space in my studio! My yarn has hit overflow and my spinning wool has migrated to the cedar armoire in my living room and I still have not moved all of my yarn stash from my other house. I wonder if I should offer it up in BIG lots of similar stuff or small auctions by dye lot...hmmm.
Anyway...for the rest of the day.
My co-worker, Frank, helped me get the last few pieces of furniture over here today and I helped him load up the refrigerator. I hope he found someone on the other end to help him unload it! I also talked to my across the street neighbor at the old house and her daughter is interested in buying my deep freezer. I think I should be able to the whole place emptied by next weekend.

I am a stitcher...not a spinner.
Whoa! The Forbidden Stitch...and the even more complicate examples... make my french knot look humble. I do a very nice french knot.
Sigh. What I find frustrating about a blog is the inability to chat back and forth.
Hey Missa Rissa, Those examples of the knotted stitches at that link are beautiful! So So precise!!
Hey, If you do list more yarn on ebay, can you tell us (ME) what your seller name is and when you have something there?? Love to get a shot at it.
Glad the moving is going along and almost done.
I hope you let us see your nametag when it's completed. I love the look of stumpwork but that's one technique I've not tried.
Sharon, you can always email me! There is a link on the right side of my blog. :-)
I love the French Knot and I plan to use some in the nametag project. I don't know if I am really up to the Forbidden stitch, but it sure was cool to look at!
I am debating whether or not I will show the nametag here when it is done...I might wait until after the contest. LOL
Thanks for a great link about a stitch I have always loved, yet rarely praised openly since everyone else seemed to dread it so. I really fell in love with it when working on canvas according to Susan Portra's instructions. (Thought I'd never remember her name!)
I would have guessed it was named 'forbidden' in the same sense that lace was forbidden (to 'commnoners') -- I can't see the aristrocracy worrying about a young girl's eye strain.
Save your pictures til after, Rissa. :)
